A First Mother's Day

I got a text from my best friend last week that said, "What do you want to do for Mother's Day?"

I texted back: "Wow."

It hadn't hit me. My first Mother's Day. In a whirlwind of firsts, here was one I hadn't considered until Catholic Charities gave me this opportunity to reflect.

Congratulations, Lois and Hope!

On Sunday, May 7, the Archdiocese of New Orleans inducted over 200 faithful into the Order of St. Louis IX for their service to the local Church and its many ministries. This year's recipients for Catholic Charities were Lois and Hope Cambre.

Congratulations to this year's very deserving mother-daughter duo!

Justice for Survivors

Kevin Fitzpatrick joined the Promise for Justice Institute along with other agencies who address trauma and human trafficking to promote the Justice for Survivors Act (SB 215) at the Capitol in Baton Rouge on April 25, 2023. The Justice for Survivors Act protects people who may have killed or harmed someone when acting in self-defense against a predator and increases state funding for survivors of violence. Kevin did not testify but stood in solidarity with those who did, which happed to be all women.

Since 2009, SERVE (Students Engaging in Reflective Volunteer Services) has worked with over 950 high school students, leveraging more than 33,400 volunteer hours in our community to impact the lives of others. Students engage in meaningful work with other high school students over the summer to earn required service hours. Use the link below for information and to register for this year’s SERVE. Students will not only commit to a week of volunteer service, but also participate in a Reflection Day on July 25th.
